Our 2005 Sol Rouge Viognier was sourced from Catie’s Corner in the cool climate of the Russian River Valley. Located along the Russian River, this vineyard benefits from the early morning fog that settles along the river and returns in the evening cooling the grapes. This cool climate and long growing season allows for maximum “hang time” of the fruit, adding to both the weight and the complexity of the wine. This wine was made with both a “natural protective” process (in stainless steel) and with a “traditional oxidative” process (in neutral French oak). The blend of the two processes provides both the crispness and mineral-scented nose of the protective process and the fruit cocktail, peach and apricot flavors in a full-bodied mouth from the oxidative process -- providing unbelievable thickness and richness, yet fine underlying structure.

Our 2005 Sol Rouge Marsanne / Roussanne Rhone blend was sourced from three vineyards, chosen for their distinct climates and exceptional fruit quality. Our Marsanne was chosen from the Saralee’s Vineyard in Russian River Valley for its cool climate, rich fertile valley soil and rolling hills. Our Roussanne comes from the Round River Ranch in Lake County, a climate warm enough to fully ripen this late harvested varietal. The Viognier was sourced from Catie’s Corner, part of the Sarelee’s properties, in the cool climate of the Russian River Valley. The blend of grapes from these three unique sites provides a wine that is complex and distinctive to that of California’s North Coast.

This classic white Rhone-style blend consists of 48% Marsanne, 48% Roussanne, and 4% Viognier. The varietals were fermented independently using indigenous yeast and a traditional oxidative” process in aged French Oak barrels. The wine exhibits intense flavor with rounded elegance and notes of honeyed caramel and apricots from the Roussanne and gritty tannins and mineral backbone from the Marssanee with hints of the fruit cocktail and peach on the nose from the Viognier. This wine exhibits multi-layered fruit with firm acidity and can be enjoyed on its own or with a creamy soft cheese.

True to this clone, this wine exhibits an earthy, smoky, meaty nose with amazing dark black fruit on the palate with subtle Indian spices in the finish.
